I purchased a torn down leftover project of someone elses, in a '78 Kawasaki KZ400 C1. I will update as the teardown and rebuild progresses. And if it turns out to be a solid bike I also have plans of future modification. Enjoy!

I got the new rear brackets painted, and touched up the battery case and it's new bracket. Then I rerouted the flasher relay and regulator wiring to fit under the seat. With them outa the way I started making a right side body panel. Once I finish it I'm gonna start on the left side, whichll take longer cuz the battery case sticks out slightly past the frame. Once I get a capacitor setup figured out I can scrap the side panles and have the bike a straight shot through!
Got the clutch cable issue figured out! Ordered one for the 78 b1 instead of the 78 a2 like I had got. I also got some sheet metal and made new brackets for the tail light and rear blinkers. I'm also making an extension to the iner fender to protect the wiring and the plastic signal lenses. I also had to see what it looked like mocked up with the new set up!

Gettin alot done! I have to wait for the tach gear, which is scheduled to arrive monday, before completely tightening all the engine bolts. I'm getting everything else on the bike together and ready to go! Put another probably 5-8hrs into it yesterday, got my battery charged, and the tach wires plugged in. Gonna make a cover for the battery and paint it black to blend in.

Got some parts the last 2 days. Got the tach, tach cable, clubmans, some bolts, and a battery. Waiting on the tach gear and getting that broken bolt out of the camshaft before I can finish putting the engine together. The tach went on easy since the mount has the same connection to the frame, it just has more holes for the added guages from the C1 to the A2. The wiring might be the only problem, as the engine cover already has all the holes and mounts for the tach gear and cable. The clubmans fit perfect and when sitting on it feel very comfortable, can't wait to get the controls on them. Tomorow I'll fill and charge the battery, try to get the broken bolt out, and that's bout all I can do for now. Once I get the bolt out and get the tach gear in the mail I'm going to buy a craftsman needle style torque wrench and return the piece of shit click stop one that is defective from harbor freight. Then I'll be able to finish putting the engine together, add fluids, and fire it up! Fingers crossed that nothing else goes wrong...atleast till I get it to fire up!

Looking thought the wiring to make sure everything's good to go, me and Jeremy found what looked like a crack where oil might leak in. We weren't sure if there should be oil in the generator so I decided I best ask for help on kzrider.com before I go and put the cover back on. The pics are of the 'crack', the hole we found below the generator that leads me to believer there's supposed to be oil in there, and the whole side of the area.

Once again the 33yrs of grime got the best of me, I spent another 4hrs before work today cleaning. Jeremy and I tilted the entire bike onto it's frame and swingarm and kept it suspended via 2 tie down straps. It was perfect to start cleaning the underside of the engine and frame. After all the initial work I picked up some engine degreaser, buffer, and polisher on my way to work. Tomorow I shall continue, and hopefully by the time I'm through it'll look like a brand new bike(+33yrs)... Just hope the darn thing runs after all this work. Gonna order the air filters, oil filter, and battery nxt tuesday after I get paid!

Got the left side engine case off, and found 33yrs worth of thick greasy muddy mess. I spent 8hrs today with bucket after bucket of scorching hot soapy water scrubbing down parts and the lower end and swing arm. I am pleased how it's coming along, and plan on finishing up cleaning up the bike this week. I'm going to get a new set of straight slightly angled back handlebars, the few gaskets I need to put the engine back together, a battery, and air filters. I still have to clean the carburators and polish the engine case. Lots of work in the next week or two.

Day 3, thought it'd be easier if I had a left or stand, looked online and saw they cost around $100. Went behind my garage and tore down an old pallette, found some wood screws, and used the 2x4's to make myself one. I used 2 tow straps to secure the frame to it and it seems to be plenty sturdy. Started to continue to tear down the bike. Ran into one problem, taking the cover off of the left side of the engine, one of the bolts was stripped a decent amount, so I carefully worked on loosening it. Have to figure out yet how to properly remove it now that all the bolts are out.
Day 1, picked th bike up for cheap from Grafton ND. It was one of a few too many father son projects that they needed to get rid of. I purchased it, but with no trailer, I had to get creative. I had already had the back and passenger seats out of my car to help my girlfriend move. I decided to try and fit it, and with the wheels removed and the handlebars turned down I managed to fit an entire motorcycle in my car.
